The turn of the century and into the 1900's was a wonderful period for design.

 

It was the period when Japanese art influenced European artists, designers, set designs and wallpapers and avant-garde artists in Paris were experimenting with bold colours and design (cubism for example). Prints from that time were often beautiful illustrations which were hand stenciled (pochoirs).

 

Many of these prints were produced as loose sheets in magazines, or portfolios.
